History:

The area was a part of the Au Lac Kingdom in the first century BCE, which eventually became a part of the Han Empire. Cao Bang joined the Vietnamese state of Dai Viet, later known as Vietnam, in the eleventh century.

Cao Bang was significant in the 20th century movement for Vietnamese independence. Ho Chi Minh and other revolutionary leaders built a base at Pac Bo in 1941, and the region served as their operational hub. Ho Chi Minh wrote his renowned “call to arms” from this location, calling the Vietnamese people to rebel against French colonial control.
